SCIENCE - DNA Extraction

Aim: To Extract DNA from a kiwifruit.

Method:
Using a spatula, scoop 1/2 kiwifruit into a bag. Add 25mL water + a pinch of salt.

- Mush until a thick soup.

- Pour over cloth into a funnel into beaker

- Pour liquid into a test tube. Add dishwashing liquid + swirl. Allow sitting for 5 minutes.

- Tilt test tube on 45 degrees angle and slowly pour 10mL of ethanol down the side.

- Allow to sit.

Result:
After we wait the DNA of the kiwi fruit floated on top of the test tube. The DNA looked like a fluffy piece cloud

Discussion:
We added water to help break the kiwifruit apart. Salt help clumps the DNA. And the ethanol helped to see it as it sits on top.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, the experiment was pretty cool, it helped us to see DNA more. And we managed to extract the DNA.
