Pyramids of Egypt

Pyramids

In social studies, we have been looking at pyramids and how they have been built.

During ancient Egypt times, the Egyptians discovered how to make a paper as well as how to write in the form of symbols and most importantly, they discovered mathematics which changed the evolution of mankind. Mathematics helped the Egyptians to gain knowledge about structures especially geometry where they found out that a triangle is the strongest shape. Mathematics is one of the most important discoveries of the Egyptians and is still being used up to today which helps us a lot in our everyday lives. Until today pyramids still stand out among the deserts of Egypt. In conclusion, if Egyptians haven't built the pyramids, we would never be able to build skyscrapers up until our modern day.

Are students addicted to their phones?

Image result for teens using phones on school
Most of the students nowadays are different, in fact very different. An example of this is students not participating in sports or other physical activity, students are also being lazy to do work and are more focused on fidgeting and playing on their phones. This is a problem because students are supposed to be the hope of the nation to make our world better. Now, if students don't stop being addicted to their phones, how else can they be the hope of the nation if they continued being focused on their phone. In conclusion, students addicted to phones are hazardous and harmful to society. If we don't act now, our society is in big trouble.

Creative Writing

I woke up one-day blurry-eyed, having no clue of the harsh noise of people outside. My anger simmers like the heat in the air, waking up Juliet accidentally. I rushed downstairs to observe the crowd gathering around the bulletin board squeezing into the crowd to visualise what is on the board. I read the flyer attached on the board while mentally keeping positive. While scanning through the flyer, I came across a sentence which caught my eye, " a better future for your family" it says, I had a short mental-breakdown nevertheless, I made my self stable and rush to Juliet to deliver her this good news.

We thoroughly discussed this data, however, Juliet mentioned about the money, she said: " How are we supposed to afford this much, my love?". It was at that very moment that I sat down in silence, not even a single word came out of my lips. It was our job day the very next morning, I worked hard and Juliet's words kept echoing in my mind " How are we suppose to afford this, my love?", it kept on repeating in my mind whenever I feel giving up on work. After about a year of saving, we gained enough money to afford a ticket to migrate to New Zealand. On the same day, we booked a ticket, so the next day we to the ship port.

Amazingly, we felt abounding emotions, after a few moments, our emotions sank in and we went into the ship. We didn't know where to proceed, so we were "entertained" by an old man, the very next minute, we were faced with a disgusting bed and cramped space onto the steerage. We felt kinda disappointed, nevertheless, we just focused on the positives. After a few days into our journey, Juliet got absolutely sick to the point that she vomited blood, I truly got worried so I took care for quite some time. Miraculously, after three days Juliet got well, I still took off her to just to be sure she is well enough. It was about a week when we finally arrived at Lyttleton harbour, it was a little different for both of us, kinda unusual I would say, for such a faraway country, we really like this fresh ambience of this new country, we got so used to it we didn't even recall our past lives back in London. Our jobs here have more opportunity as well as more money to earn. 20 years late we decided to travel back to London, from where we took our parents with us back in New Zealand.

LO: Understanding key concepts and terms based on the topic.

Migration might be a word that you've heard before, but do you know what it means? Migration is the movement of the people from one place to another settling temporarily or permanently on a new place. Their movement is often a long distance over their former location. Many people might not know but Internal migration is also possible, it is a dominant form globally.

10 Worst countries for child labour

In social studies, we have been learning about modern child labour in different countries, Children are forced to work in hazardous places such as mining, quarry, brick making, carpet making, etc.

Their rights were taken away as they don't have a choice, most of them pay their debt to the money-lender, they work all day, every day and they don't get paid a single amount of money.

It is still shocking that even in modern times, there is still quite an enormous amount of countries that allow child labour. But the countries that are in Extreme conditions are:
Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Yemen, Burundi, Sudan, Eritrea and Afghanistan.

Harriet Tubman (Writing)

Harriet Tubman

In Social Studies, we have been doing some research about Harriet Tubman, we also are learning about the S.E.E.L. paragraph, so we were asked to write a S.E.E.L. paragraph about Harriet Tubman.

What is the S.E.E.L paragraph?
SEEL paragraph a construction of paragraphs to show/prove the point of something.
S - Statement - Reflects the question. Starts it off. It may have some classification in it.
E - Explain - It is where you write the "why" part. Must use "because" to show you are explaining.
E - Example - Shows you can apply the "real world" to the explanation.
L - Link - It ties the paragraph back to the starting statement or take you to the next paragraph.

Here is my writing:

Harriet Tubman was one of the well-known "conductor" in the underground railroad. The underground railroad was one of the most dependable systems slaves used to escape from their masters. Harriet's hard work wasn't put in vain as she escaped and made it to the north where it was safe. She came back to save other slaves and made 19 trips. It was successful because she saved roughly 300 slaves. Slaves knew where to go/ what to do through the help of spirituals/songs which made it harder for their masters to realise how slaves escape without making it obvious or without having someone to tell them. In conclusion without the help of Harriet Tubman, many slaves would never be able to escape and the underground railroad would not be known by many slaves.
