Why is Spiritual well-being important?
Spiritual well-being is important because without your spiritual well-being your body wouldn't be balanced. Also, It makes up your identity/who you are.

What have we been learning so far?
So far we have been learning about the Random Act of Kindness (RAK) to help others have a great day and restore the faith in humanity. We are also learning about Identifying your self (Self-identity).

SCIENCE - DNA Extraction

Aim: To Extract DNA from a kiwifruit.

Method:
Using a spatula, scoop 1/2 kiwifruit into a bag. Add 25mL water + a pinch of salt.

- Mush until a thick soup.

- Pour over cloth into a funnel into beaker

- Pour liquid into a test tube. Add dishwashing liquid + swirl. Allow sitting for 5 minutes.

- Tilt test tube on 45 degrees angle and slowly pour 10mL of ethanol down the side.

- Allow to sit.

Result:
After we wait the DNA of the kiwi fruit floated on top of the test tube. The DNA looked like a fluffy piece cloud

Discussion:
We added water to help break the kiwifruit apart. Salt help clumps the DNA. And the ethanol helped to see it as it sits on top.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, the experiment was pretty cool, it helped us to see DNA more. And we managed to extract the DNA.

Reflection

In English, we have been doing some narrative writing for the past few weeks.

What new things have you learned?
Image result for narrative writingNew things I have learnt are the many ways to start a narrative. eg. Show don't tell and using sensory language to start a sentence.

How is this going to help you to be a better creative writer?
This helps a lot to make me a better writer because of the practice I do to achieve good writing, as well as the tasks given to improve my writing.

What activities did you enjoy from this unit of work? Why?
The activities that I enjoyed the most are the show don't tell and creating a protagonist, because it makes it a bit challenging, and I like to do things that are new and a bit challenging.

Which styles of learning work best for you?
The styles of learning that works best for me is when we are working silently, and are allowed to listen to music. I liked that style because it makes me focused more on my learning and it doesn't make me go off-track on my learning.

10 Worst countries for child labour

In social studies, we have been learning about modern child labour in different countries, Children are forced to work in hazardous places such as mining, quarry, brick making, carpet making, etc.

Their rights were taken away as they don't have a choice, most of them pay their debt to the money-lender, they work all day, every day and they don't get paid a single amount of money.

It is still shocking that even in modern times, there is still quite an enormous amount of countries that allow child labour. But the countries that are in Extreme conditions are:
Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Yemen, Burundi, Sudan, Eritrea and Afghanistan.

Setting activity 2: Setting as Backdrop

Here is a short example of a short scene:

  • The shoppers coursed through the streets like rats in a maze.
  • Kate craned her neck and spied a tiny patch of sky amidst the towering skyscrapers.
  • A brand new 2012 Porsche sped by and Kate whirled on her heels just in time to see it disappear around the corner of Lexington.

Here is my example:

  • The shoppers craned their neck and observed a gathering below.
  • A newly opened shop made people rushed like water through the falls.

Harriet Tubman (Writing)

Harriet Tubman

In Social Studies, we have been doing some research about Harriet Tubman, we also are learning about the S.E.E.L. paragraph, so we were asked to write a S.E.E.L. paragraph about Harriet Tubman.

What is the S.E.E.L paragraph?
SEEL paragraph a construction of paragraphs to show/prove the point of something.
S - Statement - Reflects the question. Starts it off. It may have some classification in it.
E - Explain - It is where you write the "why" part. Must use "because" to show you are explaining.
E - Example - Shows you can apply the "real world" to the explanation.
L - Link - It ties the paragraph back to the starting statement or take you to the next paragraph.

Here is my writing:

Harriet Tubman was one of the well-known "conductor" in the underground railroad. The underground railroad was one of the most dependable systems slaves used to escape from their masters. Harriet's hard work wasn't put in vain as she escaped and made it to the north where it was safe. She came back to save other slaves and made 19 trips. It was successful because she saved roughly 300 slaves. Slaves knew where to go/ what to do through the help of spirituals/songs which made it harder for their masters to realise how slaves escape without making it obvious or without having someone to tell them. In conclusion without the help of Harriet Tubman, many slaves would never be able to escape and the underground railroad would not be known by many slaves.

Hottest and Coldest places on earth

Death Valley is a place where it is recorded to be the hottest place on earth. Death Valley is a deserted place in the Eastern part of California. Death Valley has a subtropical climate, with long extremely hot summers and short, mild winters, as well as a little rain. When the sun heats the ground, the heat is then radiated upward, but dense below-sea-level. Animals like the roadrunner, fox, coyote, desert cottontail, bighorn sheep.

Antarctica is undoubtedly the coldest place found in the southernmost part of the earth. Antarctica used to be ice-free until 34 million years ago when it became covered with ice. East Antarctica is colder than West Antarctica. Animals like Earless seal, whales, penguins, leopard seal, killer whale, blue whale and krill live there.

Similarities:
The similarities between Antarctica and the death valley is that they both are dessert, considering the coldness in Antarctica it is considered as a desert due to the dryness of the weather. Also, both Antarctica and death valley have animals.

Differences:
The difference between Antarctica and the death valley is that death valley has a hot wheater whereas Antarctica has cold weather. Death Valley has a higher population than Antarctica.

"Show don't Tell"

What do you think "show don't tell" means? In my opinion, I think it means describing something you saw/happen without telling it/how it happened.

Eg.

I looked up to see the buildings

The tears fell on Sarah's face.

She jumped up and down when she saw him.

The lake sparkled in beauty.
